Course will run every Thursday 10.00am - 3.00pm, for 3 terms. September 18th 2025- July 2026 South West Art Courses are pleased to be offering a fantastic opportunity to study the Level 2 Certificate in Textiles. It is designed for learners who wish to develop their skills and creativity in textiles, either for career progression in the textiles sector, or for those who simply want to expand their knowledge and skills for personal development. The classes are limited to a very small number of learners to ensure that everyone has enough tutor time. There will be 165 hours of studio time and an additional 2 hours (minimum) a week study or practice at home. The course will be divided into four units, which between them allow the learner to achieve the required number of credits to gain the certificate. You will be working in sketchbooks to collate and develop your ideas, which will be influenced by your research into historical, contemporary and cultural designer makers who specialise in textile design. We will be covering numerous techniques including fabric manipulation, dyeing, hand stitch and machine stitch, appliqué, embellishment, printing, slashing, colouring, beading, 3D mediums, stencils, batik, heat transfer and many more. 1. 'Developing Design Ideas' involves experimenting with ideas using a range of craft materials, tools and equipment to develop a 3D form using 2D materials. 2. 'Sampling Techniques for Textile Design' guides you to develop design ideas and techniques for textile design producing a minimum of 7 design ideas in a style that are suitable for display to a client. 3. 'Textile Decoration' teaches you to refine processes to develop and produce a minimum of 10 individual samples in a variety of decorative textile techniques leading to a final design in which you produce, and present a one metre length by the manufacturer's width of fabric, as a decorated piece. 4. 'Design and make a hand embroidered item' provides you with the practical skills and knowledge to produce an item of hand embroidery to a saleable standard using either traditional innovative techniques. At least 3 preliminary design ideas are produced for an item to be developed into a finished item. Course Fee £3950. Deposit 25% required at the time of booking. Payment plans are available.
